About the event

Empowering Learners – Shifting Ownership of Learning to Adult English Students

Description:This workshop is designed for adult English language teachers seeking strategies to empower their students to take ownership of their learning. While teacher-led activities are often necessary, the most effective and lasting learning occurs when students actively participate and guide their own progress. Shifting responsibility to learners builds confidence, fosters independence, and strengthens key skills that contribute to a dynamic and supportive classroom environment.

Participants will explore practical, evidence-based strategies to transition from teacher-centered to learner-centered instruction. Through engaging activities, collaborative discussions, and real-world examples, teachers will leave equipped with tools to:

  • Create a classroom culture that promotes student agency and autonomy.

  • Use scaffolding to gradually shift responsibilities to learners.
