This is Alexa’s second year volunteering with the Empowering Parents (EP) program and she continues to exceed expectations! Despite working full-time during the day, Alexa dedicates two nights a week to teaching a class at a local elementary school's Family Center. Last year, she taught the EP curriculum, but this year, she has taken on a new challenge in teaching the Parents Engaged in Everyday Reading (PEER) curriculum. Alexa’s deep care for her students shines through in everything she does, meeting each one where they are and creating a classroom environment that is both fun and engaging.

Her students consistently express how much they love her class, and it’s no wonder. Alexa goes above and beyond in countless ways: she set up a WhatsApp group to keep students updated and connected, frequently reaches out to find additional ways to support them, and often brings snacks, drinks, or even homegrown vegetables to share. Her warmth and skill in navigating a multilevel class create a welcoming space where every student feels valued. We are so grateful to have Alexa as part of our program!
