Governor Cox Declares AEFL Week

We are thrilled to announce that Governor Spencer Cox has recognized the English Skills Learning Center's request to officially declare Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week in Utah! This recognition comes at a crucial time as we celebrate the importance of adult education and family literacy for individuals, families, and the broader community.

AEFL Week shines a spotlight on the transformative power of literacy, opening doors to employment opportunities, social integration, and a better quality of life. For many adults, learning English is a key step toward personal and professional empowerment. Family literacy programs play an equally vital role, as they strengthen families by helping parents and children learn together, fostering a culture of education that spans generations.

This declaration is more than just a symbolic gesture—it underscores Utah's commitment to expanding educational access for all. It reinforces the idea that literacy and education are essential to building a strong, inclusive community where everyone has the tools they need to succeed. The ESLC team felt it was essential to elevate these stories by seeking a statewide recognition of AEFL Week, and we are thrilled that our request was approved.

This declaration not only celebrates the successes of programs like ours, but it also underscores Utah's commitment to expanding access to educational resources for all residents. It’s a reminder that when we invest in adult education, we’re not just impacting individuals—we’re strengthening families, workplaces, and communities across the state.

At the English Skills Learning Center (ESLC), we work with adult English language learners to help them achieve their educational, personal, and professional goals. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, there are many ways to support adult learners and family literacy efforts. ESLC will continue leading the charge, ensuring that English language learners and their families have the tools they need to thrive. We are proud to have taken the initiative in securing this declaration and are grateful to everyone who supports our mission.

We invite you to join us in recognizing the importance of adult education and family literacy this Friday at the ESLC's Annual Picnic in the Park! Learn more about the event by clicking here.
